IELTS Overview

Test Formats

Academic Module: For candidates aiming to study at undergraduate or postgraduate levels or seeking professional registration.

General Training Module: For candidates migrating to English-speaking countries (Australia, Canada, New Zealand, UK) or pursuing training/study at below degree level.

Test Components

  • Listening: Approximately 40 questions in 30 minutes. Test-takers must answer questions directly on the question paper and then transfer them to the answer sheet.
  • Writing: Two tasks. For Academic Training, the first task is report-writing, and for General Training, it's letter writing. The second task is a general essay for both. Academic topics are more academically oriented.
  • Reading: Three passages with approximately 12-14 questions each. Test-takers have 60 minutes to answer 40 questions, which include various question types.
  • Speaking: A personal interview lasting 11-15 minutes, where an examiner assesses the candidate's speaking skills. Topics may include familiar and abstract subjects.

Total Test Duration: 2 hours 45 minutes
